The 2009 Barolo Bricco Sarmassa takes the Nebbiolo experience to dazzling heights. The power and heft of the wine is immediately apparent and the wine fills the palate, front to back. It is a wine of fascinating juxtapositions. At one moment it feels astringent, the next it fells silky and long. The aromas are floral, then savory, then spicy in what is a constantly shifting and evolving aromatic presentation. I'd love to revisit this wine in 10 or 15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2040

The 2009 Barolo Sarmassa delivers a polished and focused quality that hist the nose in a sharp and determined manner. The wie totally awakens your senses and the natural firmness o the tannins gives the mouthfeel a dry or tight aspect.The bouquet is absolutely beautiful here with dried flowers, locorice, cola, mint and loads of brimstone or pencil lead. Gorgeous. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028

The 2009 Barolo Cannubi shows delicate highlights of wild berries, cassis, herbs, blue flower, licorice and dried ginger held together in a tight embrace. As you would expect from this vineyard cru, the Cannubi is the most delicate and feminine of this threesome. The long-term perspectives are good, although the medium build suggests the wine might evolve faster. Anticipated maturity: 2015 2023
