BAROLO RISERVA DOCG 2017 SARMASSA VIGNA BRICCO | 2017 | 2023 |
95 Drinking Window: 2025 - 2042 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2017 Barolo Riserva Sarmassa Vigna Bricco is fabulous. Best of all, it will be ready to drink with minimal cellaring. Kirsch, blood orange, spice, dried rose petal, mint and sweet red cherry all meld together in a Barolo that marries a classic sense of structure with the natural intensity of a drought vintage. This heady Barolo is wonderfully exotic, and a real pleasure to taste today. Impressive. |
Barolo DOCG Sarmassa | 2010 | 2014 | 95 |
Barolo DOCG Cannubi | 2010 | 2014 | 94 |
Barolo DOCG Castellero | 2010 | 2014 | 92 |
BAROLO DOCG 2019 | 2019 | Nov 2022 |
92 Drinking Window: 2024 - 2034 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2019 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Brezza. In fact, it's one of the best editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Bright, translucent and full of character, the straight Barolo is all charm. Crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, sage, mint and sweet spice all lend notable complexity throughout. Vineyard sites are San Lorenzo, Fossati, Ravera (Novello) and Bricco San Pietro. Fruit is harvested and vinified separately, then the lots are blended before malolactic fermentation. |
BAROLO DOCG 2019 CASTELLERO | 2019 | Nov 2022 |
94 Drinking Window: 2027 - 2039 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2019 Barolo Castellero is a deep, beguiling wine. Deeply pitched spice, menthol, licorice and dried herbs meld into a core of dark-toned fruit. Virile and imposing, with notable inner sweetness, the Castellero is stunning. There's a bit of new oak influence, but it is not dominant. This is another superb Barolo from Brezza. |
BAROLO DOCG 2019 CANNUBI | 2019 | Nov. 2022 |
95 Drinking Window: 2027 - 2039 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2019 Barolo Cannubi is one of the best wines I have tasted from Brezza in a very long time. Sweet, perfumed and silky, the 2019 bristles with Cannubi character. Crushed red berry fruit, cedar, mint, rose petal and orange zest are some of the notes that grace this exquisite but potent Barolo. Give the tannins a few years to soften. |
BAROLO DOCG 2019 SARMASSA | 2019 | Nov. 2022 |
94+ Drinking Window: 2027 - 2044 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2019 Barolo Sarmassa is another impressive wine in this range from Brezza. A rich, virile Barolo, the Sarmassa packs a serious punch. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice, mocha, sage and underbrush flesh out in the glass. The 2019 is wonderfully deep and expansive, with tremendous palate presence and tons of character. What a wine! |
BAROLO RISERVA DOCG 2019 SARMASSA VIGNA BRICCO | 2019 | Nov. 2022 |
95 Drinking Window: 2027 - 2044 Antonio Galloni, November 2022 The 2019 Barolo Riserva Sarmassa Vigna Bricco brings together all the elements that make these wines so appealing, namely the elegance of Cannubi and then structure of the Sarmassa. It's a combination that works so well. Crushed rose petal, mint, cinnamon, blood orange, kirsch and sage all lend notable complexity to this full-bodied, authoritative Barolo. The huge, building finish, with its alluring inner perfume, is a thing of real beauty. The Bricco bottling is a blend of south-facing parcels within Sarmassa. |
