Cellar Selection. 98 Brezza 2021 Sarmassa (Barolo). The reserved initial profile unfolds like tea leaves steeped in blood-orange essence, revealing layers of complexi- ty. Dried cherries seem awakened spiced and rehydrated, while potpourri notes add ethereal lift. The palate moves with measured grace, each ele- ment in perfect alignment, revealing the true nobility of Nebbiolo. This Barolo from the Castellero cru inviting aromas of ripe red cherries, fragrant rose petals, and a hint of forest floor scattered with pine needles. On the palate, the wine is well-structured and elegant, with flavors of juicy raspberries, black currants, and a touch of earthy truffles. Subtle notes of licorice and dried herbs lift at the end with fine-grained tannins creating satisfying finish. A good way to fall in love with Barolo.

Immediately the wine shines with an elegant nose of wild red berries and dried rose petal as wild thyme, and blood orange zest add lift and vibrancy. Immediately the palate is balanced with flavors of roasted cherries, bay leaf, bay leaf and crushed rock that all slide into a lifted finish and supple tannins.

Forest floor, leather, camphor and dog rose aromas make their way to the forefront along with whiffs of tobacco. Full-bodied and showing a combination of power and finesse, the savory palate delivers dried cherry, anisette, black tea and flinty mineral accompanied by tightly woven, fine-grained tannins. Fragrant an structured, this opens with aromas of wild berry, menthol, leather, tilled soil and aromatic hebs. The palate doles out wil cherry, fleshy black raspberry, cinnamon, white pepper and anise. Bracing tannins and racy acidity give it and ageworthy structure, but don't attempt this until after 2020.
